When Des Moines-area drivers search for a luxury crossover SUV, their attention may naturally settle on premium midsize models like the Mercedes-Benz GLE and the BMW X5. Both of these models are offered in various trims, and those trims differ in terms of capabilities and features. With this in mind, you may be ready to dig deeper with a comparison of the 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 versus the 2022 BMW X5 sDrive 40i.

Performance

The Mercedes-Benz GLE 450 is loaded with a turbo V6 engine. It has EQ Boost mild-hybrid technology and 4MATIC® all-wheel drive, and it gives you control of over 362 horsepower. In the 2022 BMW X5 sDrive 40i, you will find a V6 turbo 3.0-liter engine. It is associated with all-wheel drive and an auto transmission. The system produces 335 horsepower.

Appearance

The differences between the GLE 450 and the X5 sDrive 40i continue throughout the exterior. The GLE-Class has been exquisitely styled with a crisply accented nose and chiseled sides. The nose has a sharp angle, while the roofline has a tall, gentle arch. The vertical bars on the tall grille have a chrome finish. The nose is also dressed up with a skid plate and elegant LED headlights. The X5 sDrive 40i, on the other hand, has a longer hood with a flatter angler. The grille is sectioned in two parts, and the crossover SUV’s headlights have an angled, aggressive quality. The sides are modestly angled with defined rear haunches.

Features

The GLE 450 is well-equipped throughout the interior and exterior. Standard features for this trim level include simulated leather material, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s panel, a 12.3-inch infotainment system screen, an MBUX system, a blind-spot monitor, automatic emergency braking, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, an integrated navigation system, heated side mirrors, a sunroof, a power liftgate and more. The 2022 X5 sDrive 40i, on the other hand, has many of these same features. However, it lacks the MBUX system, the power liftgate, and auto emergency braking.
